Virtual Media Archaeology in Futuristic Perspective: The Case of Ancient Chinese Technological Metaverse
| 09-2022
This Project takes a multi-person online virtual scene in a broad metaverse context as an experimental object, and perceives the past, present and future in space as the spatio-temporal context of ancient Chinese cosmology in a multi-person online virtual scene platform as an analytical creation, aiming at the kinetic design of ancient Chinese cosmology in the metaverse space from a futuristic perspective as a related technical derivation of social ideology, and to explore the issues of space, time, social distance, scale and ethics under the humanistic care of ancient Chinese technology. The aim is to explore the themes of space, time, social distance, scale and ethics in the context of ancient Chinese technological and humanistic concerns.
In the futuristic perspective, the deep time perception of media from the German media theorist Zielinsky is explored. The book "Variations On Media" is an alternative media experiment in the Chinese cultural context, which is an alternative possibility for the creation of media thinking. In his book Variations On Media Thinking, he refers to the phenomenon of Master thinkers in the history of the human intellect and dares to open up the deadlock of thinking with a broad vision of the past and the present, constructing a Master Model (history of science and technology) that will amaze future generations with its creativity. Virtual media archaeology contemplates the possibility of escapism within a seemingly defined framework, leading to a potentially extended science of misunderstanding.
The multi-person online virtual space becomes an object of constant correction in ancient Chinese technology, and the relationship between human and space-time becomes a distance and a benchmark to be constantly recalibrated. The re-occurrence of media perception, by virtue of its similitude and interaction, is a process of vicarious perception and a re-simulation of the so-called truth. How to achieve a seemingly rational existence in the space of cultural experimentation. This paper assesses the possibility of questioning the embodied experience offered by today's metaverse platforms and VR virtual reality scenes (the current perception is even in a sense still disembodied), and thus reawakens the ancient technology of Chinese cosmological identity (the unified view of heaven and man through space and time) as a vivid model of body theory and media empathy. This construction serves not only as a description of a combination of media observation and cultural experimentation, but also as a way of thinking about the present, a cognitive strategy that exists outside the framework of traditional understanding.
